Know the Do’s and Don’ts Before Getting Extensions for Your Wedding Day

We see it all the time when providing clients with event hair and makeup for their big day, brides wanting to add extra oomph to their updo or some extra length to their half-up style with hair extensions. Hair extensions are a great way to provide your look with this extra pizzazz. You are just going to want to make sure that you follow a few rules of thumb to ensure the best possible outcome for your big day. Our professionals at Charleston hair and makeup have made a list of the do’s and don’ts for your extensions that you plan to use on your wedding day.

The Do’s

Find multicolor extensions that will resemble your actual hair. Now we don’t mean get extensions that are the colors of the rainbow. When shopping for extensions that you want to put in your hair for the big day, find a brand that offers multilevel coloration. These extensions will have several different shades of color and blended to give them that natural look when you put them in your hair. If you are having your hair curled, have your stylist doing your event hair and makeup curl the extensions with your real hair so that you can ensure the extensions will look like a part of your natural hair.

One more major do that we recommend at Charleston hair and makeup that you do with your extensions is to wash and condition them prior to the wedding day. You can do this whether you get real human hair or if you get synthetic extensions, but it should definitely be done. This will remove any product buildup that the extensions have, and you should let them air dry.

The Don’ts

One thing that you will want to avoid when putting extensions in for your wedding day is using too much hair. When you use too many extensions, it will give your hair an unnatural look when you walk down the aisle, and you don’t want that. Try clipping in just one extension so you can achieve the desired volume or length that you are looking to get out of them.

The other two big don’ts when using extensions on your wedding day are for when you put them in your actual hair. When attaching extensions, you don’t want to put them to close to your hairline or directly on your scalp. Best practice for putting in extensions is to place them half an inch from your scalp and two inches from your hairline. This will ensure that they won’t slip out and the won’t be uncomfortable for when you have to wear them all day. To get the most natural look out of your extensions, ask your stylists to cut them after they have been attached to fit your personal look.

By following these few tips on your wedding day, you won’t have to worry about anyone knowing you’re wearing extensions. You can just enjoy how fabulous you look.
